Khar Qamar (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack II – Oct 2011
Date: 30/10/2011
Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 4 Killed (4 civilians), 2 Injured (2 civilians)
What Happened?
30 October 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a moving car in the Khar Qamar area of Datta Khel Tehsil. This attack reportedly occurred at around 1135 hours. While it was the default for news agencies to report that ‘suspected militants’ had been killed, reports of civilian deaths quickly poured in.
A local agency, The Nation, contested the claim by showing local testimony that the killed men were peaceful tribesmen. The News identified four of them as local chromite mine workers and named one as Saeedur Rehman. A subsequent investigation by the New York Times learned the names of these four men: Khastar Gul, Mamrud Khan, Noorzal Khan.
Data published years later by FATA Secretariat in Peshawar indicates that a ‘Pakistani state’ car was targeted.
