Bhaggar (S. Waziristan) Air Strike – Aug 2008

What Happened?

12 August 2008: U.S. drone missiles struck multiple houses in the Shnawana village of Birmil Tehsil in South Waziristan Agency, near Angoor Adda. The attack had allegedly targeted the leaders of a ‘good Taliban’ faction, Hezb-i-Islami.

The death toll was placed at around 23 people, including at least 5 killed civilians (named Farman, Imran, Latif, Sardar) of the Ahmedzai Wazir tribe. Multiple women and children were taken to a nearby hospital.

The full scope of the casualties are not documented. It is unknown if whether more civilians were killed. A FATA Secretariat document placed the death toll at around 12 locals.
