Ganki Khel (S. Waziristan) Drone Strike II – Aug 2008

Date: 30/08/2008

Location: South Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 5 Killed, 4 Injured

What Happened?

30 August 2008: A U.S. drone attack in the Ganki Khel area of Wana in South Waziristan allegedly killed 5 people, including two Arab-Canadians.

The attack targeted the home of Noor Khan Wazir, who was possibly linked with Hezb I Islami leader Maulvi Nazir, a ‘good Taliban’ faction.

However, no independent verification of the casualties is present at this time, making this attack undocumented.

Three days earlier, another U.S. drone attack had injured a woman and 3 children in this area. It is possible that Noor Khan Wazir’s home was the original target with the first strike.
