Sheikh Baba (Mohmand Agency) Air Strike – Jun 2008

Date: 12/06/2008

Location: Mohmand Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 18 Killed (18 civilians), 18 Injured (18 civilians)

What Happened?

12 June 2008: The military check post of the Mohmand Rifles (Pakistan’s Frontier Corps paramilitary) was targeted by a combined Afghan National Army (ANA) and United States Air Force attack. Airstrikes were conducted on the Goraprai check post, some 65 kilometers (40mi) from the agency headquarters, Ghalanai.

It is unclear if whether this was a drone attack or used conventional fighter jets. A local, Qari Fazli Khaliq, is quoted by the Pakistani Dawn to have seen U.S. drones loitering the Mohmand Agency skies since Tuesday (the attack happened on Thursday).

A document released by the FATA secretariat in Islamabad identified 18 locals to have been killed and injured, denoting the strike to be done on civilians. It is unknown if whether the FATA document counted the 11+ Frontier Corps soldiers who were killed in this attack.
