Haider Khel (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack IV – Oct 2012
Date: 01/10/2012
Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 3 Killed
What Happened?
01 October 2012: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a motorcycle and possibly a car in the Haider Khel area of Mirali. This attack reportedly occurred at around 0600 hours. There are conflicting accounts on if whether only a motorcycle was targeted, or a car was targeted along with it. It is also unclear if whether a car was struck at all.
Local testimony from The News suggests that two men on a motorcycle were killed as they crossed a dry stream bed. It is also noted that the victims were completely disfigured and it was possible to identify them. Despite this, local security officials said that foreigners were killed in this attack.
U.S. intelligence claimed that Hassan Ghul, an Al-Qaeda operative who had previously been detained in 2004, and was instrumental in tracking down Osama Bin Laden, was killed in this attack.
