Failed Taxi Hijacking – Apr 1947

Date: 26/04/1947

Location: Tel Aviv-Jaffa

Perpetrators: Irgun

Victims: Failed attack

What Happened?

26 April 1947: A Jewish taxi driver reported to the police that he had fought off Irgun terrorists who sought to steal his taxi. The terrorists had used a young woman to hire and bring the cab to a secluded part of Rehov Tabor.

The taxi driver resisted, and the resulting crowd led to the assailants escaping from the crowd. The police report filed the suspects as belonging to the Irgun Zvai Leumi.

Irgun used an identical M.O. for the assassination of the CID Chief in Haifa on the same day. It is likely that this team of hitmen also had a target in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area.

Meanwhile, Hebrew-speaking militants dressed in Arab clothes stole a loaded five-ton truck at gunpoint in Tel Aviv-Jaffa. The truck was recovered, looted.
