What Happened?
8 March 1947: Irgun militants lobbed five hand grenades from a moving automobile close to a British military camp on Allenby Road in Haifa. The soldiers returned fire, but the attackers managed to escape.
This attack was a response to the Operations ‘Hippo’ and ‘Elephant’ of the British army to curb Zionist terrorism in Mandatory Palestine. Multiple terror attacks were reported on this date.
