What Happened?

9 March 1947: A military staff car of the British Army was blown up when it came into contact with road mines placed by the Israeli militant group Irgun. The mines exploded on both sides of the civilian road.

This attack was a response to the Operations ‘Hippo’ and ‘Elephant’ of the British army to curb Zionist terrorism in Mandatory Palestine. A series of coordinated, lethal attacks had been made by Irgun and Lehi in the preceding days.
