Moshe Barazani Arrest – Mar 1947

Date: 09/03/1947

Location: Al-Quds (Jerusalem)

Perpetrators: Lehi

Victims: Failed attack

What Happened?

9 March 1947: A Jewish man was arrested by the local police on the charge of hand grenade possession. The suspect was later identified as Moshe Barazani, a terrorist belonging to the illegal Lehi / Stern Gang group in Mandate Palestine. Barazani was sentenced to death a week later, but the Irgun smuggled in hand grenades into the prison in a failed attempt for Barazani to attack more British officers.

This failed attack coincided with a wave of lethal terror attacks against the British government in Mandatory Palestine. These attacks include the Jaffa Police HQ bombing, Citrus House bombing, and Sarona co-op bombing.

A few days later, the Syrian Orphanage was bombed by the Stern Gang, a street down from where Barazani was arrested.
