Dre Nishtar (N. Waziristan) Massacre VII – Jul 2012

Date: 23/06/2012

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 14 Killed, 11 Injured

What Happened?

23 July 2012: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house in the locally known ‘Tarobi Markaz’ of Dre Nishtar in Shawal Tehsil. The attack reportedly began at around 2045 hours. The targets were initially described as ‘suspected militants’ in media reports. It was alleged that the house belonged to Sadiq Noor, a militant commander.

This was a double-tap attack. The CIA drones deliberately targeted rescuers who were digging through the rubble to find victims of the first missile. The attack reportedly killed 14 people and left at least 11 injured.

Local tribal sources interviewed by The News, a local agency, alleged that all the victims were local tribesmen not connected to any militant networks. Findings from the Amnesty International contradict The News, instead alleging that five militants of the Maulvi Ihsanullah group were killed.
