Dari Nishtar (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack – Jul 2011

Date: 12/07/2011

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 15 Killed

What Happened?

12 July 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house and car in the Dari Nishtar area of Shawal Tehsil. It is not yet known to whom the house belonged or at what time this attack happened. Media reports are sparse, alleging that up to 15 ‘suspected militants’ were killed.

Reuters cited an anonymous security source claiming that a militant hideout was struck, but the news article has been permanently lost.

This was a double-tap attack, with the second missile deliberately targeting the rescuers who had come to search through the rubble for survivors and dead bodies. An investigation by the TBIJ found at least four civilian casualties.

No independent inquiry has ever been made to learn of the victims’ identities and innocence. This U.S. drone strike is not logged in the FATA Secretariat Peshawar’s official records, signifying its undocumented status.

Possible Casualties: Shabbir, Kalam, Waqas, Bashir
