What Happened?

23 January 2009: A U.S. drone strike targeted a house in the Zeraki area of Mirali in North Waziristan Agency. The house reportedly belonged to a civilian Khalil Khan Dawar where a family meeting was taking place.

While the CIA claimed to have killed five Al-Qaeda militants in the attack, fieldwork by a joint Stanford and New York University project found that most fatalities were civilian, including children.

Casualties: Faheem Qureshi (I), Ejaz Ahmed, Khan Dawar, Azar Ur Rehman, Mansoor Ur Rehman, Ubaid Ullah, Rafiq Ullah, Safat Ullah, Shams, Noor, Majid, Siraj.

Siraj was reportedly the nephew of a local JUI-F politician, Moulana Muhammad Deendar.
