British Military Camp 87 Attack – Mar 1947

Date: 10/03/1947

Location: Hadera

Perpetrators: Irgun

Victims: 1 killed, 6 wounded

What Happened?

10 March 1947: One British soldier was killed as a result of gunfire and hand grenades when Irgun militants attacked from nearby citrus groves. Unconfirmed reports stated that these groves were going to be uprooted by the British army to prevent further attacks.

This attack was a response to the Operations ‘Hippo’ and ‘Elephant’ of the British army to curb Zionist terrorism in Mandatory Palestine. A series of coordinated, lethal attacks had been made by Irgun and Lehi in the preceding days.
