Cairo-Haifa Railway Bombing – Apr 2024

Date: 22/04/1947

Location: Rehovot

Perpetrators: Lehi / Stern Gang

Victims: 8 killed, 27 injured

What Happened?

22 April 1947: A 12-coach mixed military and civilian Cairo-Haifa train was derailed and wrecked after being attacked by Lehi terrorists from an orange grove. The derailment occurred after a land mine exploded under a first-class coach. The disoriented British soldiers returned fire on the orange groves, but the attackers had made their escape.

A British communique later in Tel Aviv-Jaffa confirmed that this attack was the work of Lehi. In the preceding days, Irgun and Lehi had worked together in shootings and land mine ambushes on British forces and civilians.
