Six months after the parading and slaughter of 100+ innocent Arabs in Deir Yassin (including women and children), Menachem Begin wanted to visit the United States to gather funds for his new political party, the Herut, in November 1948.

Alarm bells rang in London over Begin’s movements. British embassies in Paris, Dublin, and Washington scrambled to share details of what they knew about Begin whose arrest warrants were issued by the Mi5.
The massacre at Deir Yassin wasn’t the sole reason the British were pursuing Begin. Two years earlier (1946), Begin’s terror outfit Irgun blew up the King David Hotel, killing 91 innocents and openly challenging British authority in Mandatory Palestine. Two months after the King David Hotel, Irgun had bombed the British embassy in Rome.

Mi5 concluded that Menachem Begin had no official passport and would be travelling under the aliases ‘Saragovsky’, ‘Eisenberg’, or ‘Joussef Nahmad’ (a Syrian national residing in Hong Kong). British cables on November 8th and 16th (among other dates) confirmed that the U.S. State Department was under heavy pressure from Zionist lobby groups to allow Begin’s entry.
Perhaps it was the assumption of British diplomats like Sir Percy Sillitoe and R Thistlethwaite that the Americans would follow common sense and refuse entry to a terrorist mass-killer. I say this because they confidently laughed at the State Department being ’embarrassed’. Little did they know the Americans would give standing applause at an Israel-led genocide, decades later.

Despite hopes running high to make a diplomatic ‘win’ against Israel’s support for terror groups, British diplomats began worrying when cables came in that the State Department was seriously considering allowing Begin’s entry. This prompted London to compile an entire list of reasons that Begin should not be allowed.
- He may be a Soviet Agent.
- He is a deserter (from the Polish army).
- He is a terrorist.
- He is not a politician, but a gangster.
By compiling this list, London was hoping to give Washington ‘ammunition’ to reject Begin. At that time, they were unaware that U.S. territory was being used to fund terror attacks against Britain, as confirmed by the OSS / CIA in 1944.
Much to their disappointment, a few days after the list-making, the British office in Haifa confirmed that Begin had been granted a visitor’s visa into the United States.
For the past year, journalists have sacrificed their lives to document an ongoing genocide in Gaza, which both the United Nations and Amnesty International have labelled as genocide. Even the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant.
But the mountain of evidence has done remarkably little to shift American sentiment around the genocide, as Joe Biden’s administration continues to laugh and crack jokes (video below) about not respecting ICC arrest warrants for Israel, but supporting them against Syria’s Assad.
