What Happened?
23 January 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a moving car in the Razmak area of North Waziristan. This attack happened at around 0735 hours. Initial media reports alleged that 6 ‘suspected militants’ had been killed. A stray missile is reported to have destroyed a nearby house.
Subsequent reporting from the city showed that a child was injured in this attack. It is not clear if there were any casualties from the destroyed house.
Data published by FATA officials indicate that casualties belonged to the Mehsud tribe. No independent study has taken place to determine if whether the casualties were civilians, as indicated by the presence of a child casualty.
This is the first known U.S. drone strike in Razmak.
This was the last in a series of three U.S. drone attacks on this day.
