What Happened?
3 June 2011: The Al Qaeda affiliate and senior commander Ilyas Kashmiri was reportedly targeted while sleeping in an orchard along with other militants, Mohammad Usman, Ibrahim, Ustad Ahmad Farooq, Amir Hamza and Imran.
By 30 August 2011 Kashmiri’s 313 Brigade had appointed a new commander. Ustad Farooq, previously having been thought to have been killed in the drone strike in June 2011, released a video eulogy to Kashmiri. It is possible Kashmiri was killed in a drone attack the following week of June 2011 in Azam Warsak by another drone attack.
Given the contradictions and lack of any independent inquiry, this drone attack is considered undocumented.
