Datta Khel Drone Strike – March 2011

Date: 17/03/2011

Location: North Waziristan, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 44 killed, 10+ injured

What Happened?

17 March 2011: A tribal jirga (meeting of elders) scheduled to debate a local business dispute was struck by missiles fired from American drones. The building hosting the meeting collapsed, leading to the deaths of at least 44 civilians.

Although Western media alleged that the meeting was of armed militants, local media and the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported that the meeting was civilian.

This massacre took place days after the U.S. Government had paid blood money in exchange for the release of CIA agent Raymond Davis, whose undercover team had shot and trampled 3 civilians in Lahore three months earlier.
