What Happened?

8 March 1947: The staff car of Brigadier Poole, commanding officer of the Third Infantry Brigade, was blown up by two road mines north of Netanya. The Brigadier narrowly escaped death.

Irgun Zvai Leumi had placed these mines on civilian roads as a response to Operations Hippo and Elephant of the British army to curb Zionist terrorism in Mandatory Palestine. Multiple terror attacks were reported on this date.
