Spalaga (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack IV – Feb 2012

Date: 16/02/2012

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 6 Killed, 7 Injured

What Happened?

16 February 2012: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house in the Spalaga area of Miranshah. This attack reportedly started at around 0800 hours. Media reports cite multiple Pakistani security officials claiming that the casualties were all militants linked to the Haqqani Network.

It can be observed that U.S. strikes against the Haqqani Network had grown substantially in the past few months, following protests of the Obama administration that the Pakistani ISI was shielding the group.

Only a week earlier, the Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had rejected the claim that his government had given permission to the U.S. to conduct more drone attacks, after a 55-day pause immediately following the Salala massacre where ISAF had killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
