What Happened?
08 June 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a ‘housing compound’ in the covered forests of Shawal Valley. This attack reportedly occurred at around 1145 hours. As per local testimony, two missiles were fired on a vehicle that had entered the compound minutes earlier, reportedly killing 7 people.
Two more missiles then targeted the ‘housing compound’ itself, reportedly killing 14+ people. A local agency, The News, reported that it was not possible to identify who the casualties were. AFP, in contrast, alleged that a Taliban training camp belonging to the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction was destroyed.
No independent inquiry has taken place since, leaving this attack undocumented.
