Shawal (N. Waziristan) Massacre IV – Aug 2012
Date: 24/08/2026
Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 22 Killed, 10 Injured
What Happened?
24 August 2012: A U.S. drone strike targeted multiple villages in the Shawal Tehsil. These attacks happened minutes apart. The first strike happened in the village of Makai, the second in Dara, and the third in an unknown village of Dre Nishter.
Makai: Quite possibly this drone strike targeted the locally known ‘Gillamand Markaz’. Pakistani security officials alleged that at least four militants were killed in this attack, including Turkmen. These fatalities included: Emeti Yakuf, Yaku Emeti, Tuersun Toheti, Mukhtar, Karim, and Matiullah.
Emeti Yakuf was alleged to be the leader of the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), who was wanted by China for the 2008 Beijing Olympics attack. Emeti Yakuf was quite possibly the interim leader for the ETIM after its previous leader, Abdul Haq Al Turkistani, was seriously injured in a U.S. drone strike in North Waziristan’s Ghundikala area in February 2010.
Dara: Another house was targeted, killing up to 6 people. These deaths were allegedly confirmed by the Taliban to have been their men.
Dre Nishtar: Multiple vehicles were destroyed, killing up to 7 or 8 people. These fatalities have never been independently verified to determine if they were militants or civilians.
