Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 25 Killed, 8 Injured
What Happened?
10 August 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house in the Machis area of Miranshah. This attack occurred at around 0200 hours. Media reports allege that a hideout of suspected militants was targeted, creating a mass-casualty event where more than 23 ‘suspected militants’ were killed.
Later investigations by the Associated Press in 2012 found that most casualties were militants. A car outside the house, reportedly carrying four suspected militants, was also destroyed. It was reported that many of the casualties were Arabs and Uzbeks. Data published by FATA officials years later places the death toll at 10, adding instead that the dead were Afghans and Turkmen.
This was the first U.S. drone strike in the Ramadan of 2011.
