Hassu Khel (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack II – Sep 2011
Date: 11/09/2011
Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 5 Killed
What Happened?
11 September 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed either a house, car, or motorcycle in the Hassu Khel area of Mirali Tehsil. The attack reportedly occurred at around 1930 hours. BBC alleged that a Haqqani Network commander Hafeezullah was killed, along an unknown ‘foreigner’.
A few days later, The Washington Post alleged that this strike had also killed Al-Qaeda’s Abu Hafs Al-Shahri, a Saudi national, a claim that was not confirmed by Pakistan’s military intelligence. Some weeks later, CNN claimed that this strike had also killed a German Al-Qaeda commander Muhammad Al-Fateh, linked to the Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami.
Data published years later by FATA Secretariat in Peshawar contradicts all these claims, instead alleging that a motorcycle had been destroyed, killing one ‘non-local’. Given these contradictions, this attack is considered undocumented.
