Ghulam Khan (N. Waziristan) Massacre – Nov 2010

Date: 16/11/2010

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 20 Killed, 2 Injured

What Happened?

16 November 2010: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a car and nearby house in the Ghulam Khan area. The exact time of this attack is unknown, but it is reported to have been done in the early hours of the morning. Media reports alleged that a Taliban training centre had been destroyed.

Independent investigation from Al Jazeera alleged that 16 people were killed in a house, including women and children, raising the possibility that a family home was targeted. Later investigation by the TBIJ named at least five civilians as Sabir, Riaz, Shaukatullah, Haris, and Taj. The casualties are reported to have been belonged to the Utmanzai tribe.

In 2012, another investigation from Associated Press rejected all earlier investigations and framed all 20 casualties as militants. A report from FATA officials in 2013 does not recognise this U.S. drone strike at all.

Given the contradictory accounts, this drone attack is considered highly controversial and undocumented.
