What Happened?
01 July 2012: A U.S. drone strike targeted the locally known ‘Rehmani Markaz’ in the Kund Ghar village of Dre Nishtar in Shawal Tehsil. This attack reportedly began at around 0400 hours. Media reports indicate that up to 9 people were killed and 3 were left injured.
Anonymous security officials reported to the Associated Press that up to 6 militants were killed, who were linked to both the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group and Turkmenistan Islamic Movement (TIM). No independent inquiry has ever been made to confirm this report.
This was the second U.S. drone strike on this ‘Rehmani Markaz’ in less than a week. The first strike reportedly killed 7 ‘suspected militants’, however there has not been any independent inquiry on that attack as well.
