Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 7 Killed, 2 Injured

What Happened?

01 November 2013: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house or car in the Danda Darpa Khel area of Miranshah. Taliban sources confirmed soon afterwards that the attack had killed the top TTP leader, Hakimullah Mehsud, along with several other militants.

U.S. and Pakistani intelligence confirmed the following deaths: Abdullah Mehsud (driver), Tariq Mehsud (bodyguard), Wali Badshah (bodyguard), Wali Muhammad (uncle), Saheel Mehsud (militant), and Sameedullah Mehsud (militant).

Hakimullah had succeeded TTP’s previous leader, Baitullah Mehsud, after his death in a South Waziristan drone attack in 2009. Hakimullah’s death had been claimed three times previously, twice in January 2010 and once in January 2012. Hakimullah was succeeded by Fazlullah Hayat, who also led the Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM) or more commonly known as the ‘Swat Taliban’.
