What Happened?

18 June 2005: A U.S. drone missile struck a house in a hamlet of Shah Nawaz Kot in the South Waziristan Agency of Pakistan’s federally administered tribal area (FATA). The attack is reported to have killed a Nek Muhammad and four of his companions. Nek was an Afghan militant with ties to the Taliban and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.

While initially credited to the Pakistan armed forces, this attack was the first-ever CIA drone attack on Pakistani territory.

Casualties: Nek Muhammad (27), Fakhar Zaman, Azmat Khan, Sher Zaman Ashrafkhel.
