Tappi (N. Waziristan) Massacre – Feb 2011
Date: 21/02/2011
Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 14 Killed (14 civilians), 10 Injured (10 civilians)
What Happened?
21 February 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed either one or multiple homes in the Tappi area of Mirali. This attack reportedly occurred at around 2125 hours. A local media source, The News, conducted interviews in the locality to learn that the casualties were civilians.
“The villagers claimed all the victims were local tribes people and had no affiliation with the militants. They said the injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital in Mir Ali town, where the doctors said condition of some of them was critical.”
Data published by FATA officials years later alleged that only 6 of the casualties were civilians, while the rest were Mehsud militants.
It is notable that this civilian massacre occurred after a brief pause in U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan, which was due to CIA contractor Raymond Davis’s arrest in Lahore for the murder of 3 civilians.
