11 June 2014: A U.S. drone strike destroyed multiple houses and cars in the Tapi Tol Khel or Dargah Mandi area of Miranshah Tehsil. This drone attack came in two waves, hours apart.
Media reports indicate that locals saw a truck moving through the area when it was struck and that the resulting explosion damaged nearby houses as well. This attack caused at least six casualties. The second strike followed hours later, reportedly either a double-tap that killed 10 rescuers, or a separate attack that destroyed nearby homes in the same area, or both.
CMC identified the following casualties, all allegedly militants: Yasin Gardezi, Abdullah Khan, Jamil, Asadullah, Noor Khan, Saif el Jihad, Roohullah, Hamza Gul, Hamza, Bilal, Mehmood, Haji Gul, Mufti Sufiyan, Abu Bakar.
This drone attack was the first of 2014, after a 5-month pause at request of the Pakistani Government. This attack happened 3 days after TTP’s 2014 Karachi Airport attack in which 38 people were killed.
Pakistan Army’s Operation Zarb-e-Azb began 4 days later. Less than two weeks earlier, the captured U.S. soldier Bower Bergdahl had been exchanged for 5 Taliban prisoners.
