What Happened?
01 January 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house and a car in the Qari Markaz area of Mandi Khel in Spinwam Tehsil. This attack happened at around 0815 hours. Media reports alleged that up to 9 ‘suspected militants’ belonging to the Taliban’s Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction were killed.
An investigation by the Associated Press in 2012 used local interviews to conclude that all casualties in this drone strike were militants.
A double-tap U.S. strike happened two hours later, killing rescuers digging through the rubble. This attack is covered in a separate OMM entry.
