Date: 25/03/2009

Location: South Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 8 Killed, 5 Injured

What Happened?

25 March 2009: U.S. drone missiles targeted two cars crossing a bridge in the Makin area of South Waziristan Agency. Simultaneously, it is also reported that the house of a local man named Noor Muhammad (or Haji Dost Muhammad) was destroyed.

Up to eight people, described to be foreign nationals, are reported to have been killed.

The American journalist, David Rohde, who was in Taliban captivity at that time gave a first-hand account of this strike.

The missiles had struck two cars, killing a total of seven Arab militants and local Taliban fighters. I felt a small measure of relief that no civilians had been killed… Several days after the drone strike near our house in Makeen, we heard that foreign militants had arrested a local man. He confessed to being a spy after they disemboweled him and chopped off his leg. Then they decapitated him and hung his body in the local bazaar as a warning.
