Date: 15/06/2011

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 6 Killed (6 civilians)

What Happened?

15 June 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a car on either the Isha – Razmak or Miranshah – Mirali road, near the Isha Check Post. This attack reportedly occurred at around 1915 hours. It was learned through fieldwork that all of the casualties were civilians.

Among the dead was the grandson of tribal elder Malik Shahzada of the Toorikhel Wazir Tribe, who had been forced to flee to Peshawar by the Taliban. Akram Shah, a local WAPDA worker was killed. Two pharmacists of the Razmak Medical store in Miranshah Bazar, Atiq Ur Rehman (Tariq) and Irshad Khan were also killed. Finally, Amar Khan, described as a local car parts shop owner, was specifically targeted by a double-tap drone missile after he escaped the burning car wreckage.

Akram Shah reportedly left behind three young children.

As alleged by a local news agency, Dawn, the identity of one more killed civilian has never been learned.

Data published by FATA Secretariat years later reports that this attack happened on a ‘state’ car, which means it likely belonged to WAPDA and was assigned to Akram Khan, who worked as a company driver. Eyewitnesses report fear and paranoia in the area as five U.S. drones constantly loitered in the sky.
