Darga Mandi (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack III – Sep 2013
Date: 29/09/2013
Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 6 Killed, 3 Injured
What Happened?
29 September 2013: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house in the Dargah Mandi or possibly the Kharwari Tabi area on the border of Ghulam Khan Tehsil. This attack reportedly began at around 1030 hours. Media reports allege that a Haqqani Network commander Qari Abbas was killed.
No declassified or publicly known information is available on any Haqqani Network commander by the name of Qari Abbas, which suggests that he was either not part of the network, or not a medium or high level operative. Earlier in July 2013, the Taliban had orchestrated a mass breakout at a prison in Frontier Region Dera Ismail Khan, where 44 fugitives escaped. A man named Qari Abbas was listed among the escapees.
No other information is presently available about the casualties. The News reported that rescue services were delayed as the drones continued to loiter overhead, for fears of double-tap strikes that deliberately target rescuers. The injured were reported to be in critical condition. Their identities have never been learned. This drone attack is also not acknowledged in FATA officials records.
