Safad Bus Attack – Feb 1948

Date: 12/02/1948

Location: Al-Nabi Yusha, Safad

Perpetrators: Haganah

Victims: 5 Arabs Killed, 5 Injured

What Happened?

12 February 1948: At 8 am on the morning of February 12, 1948, a bomb was electronically detonated under a bus en route from al Hula to Safad on the Nabi Yusha-Safad (2026) road and ambushed by Zionist forces. Combined with a simultaneous ambush with gunfire and firebombs, five Palestinian Arab passengers were wounded, and the attack killed 5.

In a New York Times article on 13 February 1948, the British Police report the culprits as being “the Jews”, even though it was most likely the Haganah, since they were known to be active in the area.

The Israeli Haganah had raided nearby areas preceding and after this attack, including Sa’sa’ near Safad, Qisarya, Qira, Qamun and Biyar Adas.
