What Happened?
21 August 2009: Multiple U.S. drone missiles struck a school and nearby houses in the Danda Darpakhel area of North Waziristan Agency. The school / madrassa was allegedly linked to Sirajuddin Haqqani.
At least 21 people were killed, including at least 5 women and 6 children. It is reported that no rescue efforts were made in the aftermath, due to locals’ fear of double-tap strikes from CIA drones.
A document published by FATA officials years later alleged that all those killed in this attack were militants.
Due to a lack of any independent inquiry, it is unknown if whether the remaining casualties were civilians or militants.
This was the third U.S. mass-casualty attack in three years that had killed a large amount of women and children.
Possible Casualties: Syed Wali Shah, Gul Dar, Haji Munawar, Zain Ullah, Sahib Ullah, Naeem Ullah, Faiz Ullah, Rahima, Shaista.
