What Happened?
29 May 2013: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house in either the Chashma or Qazi Qot area of Miranshah Tehsil. This attack reportedly began at around 0300 hours. Media reports alleged the deaths of senior Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Wali Ur Rehman.
Other fatalities included militants: Fakhar Ul Islam, Nasarullah, Shahabuddin, Saeedus, Adil, Nasiruddin, Rehman.
Wali Ur Rehman was wanted for multiple attacks on the Pakistani state, including a 2011 attack on a Pakistan Navy base in Karachi. Rehman had replaced Hakimullah Mehsud, after Mehsud had been exiled from the group’s ranks. Rehman’s death coincided with Islamabad’s effort to convince Maulana Sami Ul Haq to mediate a peace deal between TTP and Pakistan.
The U.S. State Department had a $5mn bounty on Wali Ur Rehman.
