Speara Rogha (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack – Oct 2010

Date: 10/10/2010

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 9 Killed, 3 Injured

What Happened?

10 October 2010: A U.S. drone attack destroyed either an Afghan refugee camp, a house, or a car in the Speara Rogha area of Shewa Tehsil. This attack happened at around 1100 hours. There is significant contradiction in different media reports.

Data compiled by FATA officials and released years later indicate that a vehicle was destroyed (possibly near ‘Kito Bridge’). A local paper, Dawn, reported that the house of a local Awal Khan was destroyed and that he was linked to militants. Both AFP and BBC reported that an Afghan refugee camp was destroyed.

It was learned in a diplomatic cable between Islamabad and Washington that the CIA and USAF had taken a deep interest in tracking Afghan refugee camps in FATA. This focus may have been on the Shewa Tehsil of North Waziristan and Lower Kurram Agency.
