What Happened?
09 February 2012: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house in the Serai Darpa Khel (Zafar Colony in Miranshah). This attack reportedly occurred at around 0400 hours. Western media alleged that Al-Qaeda leaders – Badar Mansoor, Qari Fayaz, Faisal Khorasani, Yasir Khorasani, and Qari Mushtaq were killed.
Mansoor, whose real name was reportedly Qari Imran, had taken over Al Qaeda’s reigns in the Khorasan after the death of Ilyas Kashmiri in 2011. The attack also killed Mansoor’s family, including at least one wife and one child.
Data published by FATA Secretariat alleges that 3 non-local Punjabi militants were killed in this attack, which apparently contradicts the other sources.
