Victims: 8 Killed, 7 Injured
What Happened?
07 September 2009: A U.S. drone strike targeted a car and residential homes in the Machi Khel area of Mirali in North Waziristan Agency. The CIA alleged that it had targeted and killed the Al Qaeda leader, Ilyas Kashmiri, who was not present at the site and was not killed until June 2011.
The strike targeted the family of a child, 15-year-old Sadullah Wazir, who lost both his legs and one eye in the attack. Mautullah Jan, Sabiruddin, Kadaanullah Jan, and Ajmanullah were amongst the confirmed civilian casualties. Sadaullah lodged a case against the United States in the UN Human Rights Council for killing his family members.
No investigation followed this attack, so it cannot be determined if whether the other casualties were civilians or militants. This attack is partially documented and requires follow-up fieldwork.
