Khushali Tori Khel (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack IX – May 2012
Date: 28/05/2012
Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 9 Killed, 6 Injured
What Happened?
28 May 2012: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house in the Khushali Tori Khel area in Mirali. The attack began around 0020 hours. The house was reportedly under construction and belonged to a local man Bulbul Khan.
An investigation by the TBIJ found that three children and one woman were injured at the attack site. No information is available about the deceased. Pakistani security officials claimed that the drone strike happened in an area where foreigners normally concentrated.
It was alleged that the Libyan-born Abu Yahya al-Libi, an Al Qaeda commander, was killed this in this attack. However, al-Libi’s death actually happened in another U.S. drone attack in June 2012, in a high-casualty event that killed at least 6 civilians.
Four days earlier, U.S. drones had destroyed a mosque and multiple houses in this area, creating an undocumented, high-casualty event. This drone attack is considered undocumented as well.
