Gurwek (N. Waziristan) Massacre III – Jul 2011

Date: 12/07/2011

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 20 Killed

What Happened?

12 July 2011: In a second very high-casualty attack in this area in under 24 hours, U.S. drones destroyed the reported house of a local Rahim Noor. This is one of the least reported high-casualty strikes in the region, as no pertinent or verified information is available about the nature of the casualties.

Some media reports allege that Rahim Noor may have been linked to some militant groups.

The attack that happened on the preceding day is also undocumented, with both local media and security officials unable to confirm the civilian or militant nature of those casualties.

The last time that Gurwek had been targeted was in 2008, where another U.S. drone strike had killed 12 people, at least 7 of whom were women and children.
