Ghazlamai (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack – Jan 2011

Date: 07/01/2011

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 6 Killed

What Happened?

07 January 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house, a car, and a motorbike in the Ghazlamai area of Datta Khel Tehsil. This attack reportedly happened at around 1320 hours. Media reports contradict on if whether a motorbike was destroyed too, where Geo TV reported that a ‘suspected militant’ fleeing on a motorbike after the drone strike was targeted.

Another local media agency, Pakistan Observer, claimed that all the casualties were civilian tribesmen. The Express Tribune also did not call the casualties ‘suspected militants’. A document published years later by FATA officials does not recognise the drone strike on the house and car at all, and instead only reports on a drone attack on a motorbike that killed one local man.

Given these contradictions, there is a high likelihood of undocumented civilian casualties.
