What Happened?
23 January 2011: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a ‘state’ car in the Doga Mada Khel area of Datta Khel Tehsil. This attack reportedly occurred at around 0630 hours. Media reports describe the car to have been parked. The U.S. missile is reportedly to have badly damaged a nearby house as well. It was alleged that 05 ‘suspected militants’ had been killed.
Data published years later by FATA officials indicate that a state car was destroyed in this attack and that 2 locals were killed. No independent inquiry was ever made on possible casualties in the destroyed house, raising the possibility of undocumented civilian or child deaths.
This was the first in a series of three U.S. drone attacks on this day.
