Doag (S. Waziristan) Drone Attack II – Oct 2008

Date: 31/10/2008

Location: South Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 12 Killed, 25 Injured

What Happened?

31 October 2008: A U.S. drone attack targeted a house in the Doag area in Wana of South Waziristan. The house of a Muhammad Haroon Wazir was allegedly targeted, but the death toll is unknown. A FATA document from that time reports that only one person was killed, however media reports tentatively report up to 12 dead.

Media reports suggest that between 20 and 30 people were injured, but no independent confirmation is available yet of the casualties or their civilian status.

In the aftermath, a commander from Maulvi Nazir’s network warned the Pakistani government that if more U.S. drone attacks target their area, they would turn their weapons towards local security forces instead of the U.S. presence in Afghanistan.

In March of 2008, another attack in this area had killed 20+ people, most of whom are alleged to be civilians as well.
