What Happened?

16 July 2014: A U.S. drone strike destroyed several unknown buildings, alleged to be two mosques, in the Saidgi area of Datta Khel Tehsil. This attack reportedly began at around 0200 hours.

Some media reports indicated that a house and a car were destroyed, killing at least 18 people. Anonymous Pakistani officials told Western media that that the ‘compound’ was a base for foreign and local militants. The New York Times reported local insight that 12 of the dead were Central Asian, while 8 were locals.

The News alleged that two separate mosques were destroyed. Locals reported that 12 people were killed in one mosque, and 8 were killed in the second. The contradictions in these media reports are quite severe, and no subsequent inquiry has been made to determine the victims’ identities.
