What Happened?
13 April 2013: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house and car in the Manzar Khel area of Datta Khel Tehsil. This attack reportedly started at around 1845 hours. It was reported that a pick-up truck was attacked as it entered the premise of a house, destroying both.
Local sources stated that the bodies of the victims were severely burnt and it was not possible to identify them. Local security officials alleged that foreign militants had been killed. Another local source, Dawn, alleged that four militants of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group were killed.
This was the first CIA drone strike after a new caretaker Prime Minister had been selected in Islamabad to oversee the government affairs until 11 May. Later allegations surfaced that an Al Qaeda commander Abu Ubaidah Abdullah al Adam was killed, who worked as the group’s intelligence chief, after replacing Muhammad Khalil Hassan al Hakaymah who died in an October 2008 drone strike in South Waziristan.
