What Happened?

18 August 2012: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house and multiple cars in the Kroshkai Markaz or Shuweda area of Shawal Tehsil. The attack reportedly began at around 1125 hours. Initial reports alleged that four missiles were fired – two on a house, and two on cars parked outside where men had gathered for lunch.

The victims were described as ‘alleged militants’ by the AFP. Al Jazeera and other local news agencies, including the Pajhwok and The News, did not describe the victims to be alleged militants.

At least two fatalities were confirmed, a 43-year-old Ahsan Aziz from Kashmir and his wife, who was the daughter of Alifudin Turabi, the Jamat e Islami Ameer of Azad Kashmir. Aziz was alleged to be a member of the Afghan Taliban.

This attack coincided with Eid Ul Fitr, a religious holiday to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
