Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan
Perpetrators: United States
Victims: 16 Killed, 5 Injured
What Happened?
03 July 2013: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a house and a car in the Danda Darpa Khel area of Miranshah. The attack reportedly occurred at around 0100 hours. Some sources report that the house belonged to a local man Haji Shahrifullah, who survived the attack. There are also allegations that the house was either newly built, was being used as a local court, or a motel.
The Spanish news agency, EFE, was informed by Pakistan’s military intelligence that a Haqqani Network commander Sher Khan was killed, along with Abu Saif Al Jaziri, Navid Butt, Rana Ashraf, and Akhtar Zadran. A U.S. official told the Associated Press that this drone attack was carefully planned and based on proper intelligence, instead of a signature strike, as the CIA was working to keep the Pakistani military intelligence apprised on all attacks.
An investigation by Amnesty International suggests that all 16 fatalities and 5 injured from this U.S. drone strike belonged to militant groups.
