Khaisori (N. Waziristan) Drone Attack VI – Feb 2012

Date: 16/02/2012

Location: North Waziristan Agency, FATA, Pakistan

Perpetrators: United States

Victims: 15 Killed, 3 Injured

What Happened?

16 February 2012: A U.S. drone strike destroyed a reported pick-up truck in the Khaisori area of Mirali Tehsil. The attack reportedly started at 1600 hours and used more than four drones. Media reports alleged that ‘suspected militants’ were killed in this attack, reportedly hailing from Uzbekistan.

In January 2014, German media alleged that a German national had been killed in a February 2012 drone attack in Waziristan, along with ‘Uzbek’ elements, which matches this drone strike entry. The 27-year-old German man, Patrick K., hailed from Hesse. It was learned that the German Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz, or BfV (equivalent to the FBI), had tried to recruit Patrick K. as an informant for military intelligence into opposition militant groups in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The News, a local agency, reported that the victims were badly mutilated. Rescuers avoided taking the bodies out because the drones loitered overhead for hours. CIA was infamous for deliberately killing rescuers in double-tap strikes.

Data published years later by FATA report expresses uncertainty about the casualties. It reports that 8 locals were killed, but there was a possibility that foreigners were among the dead.
